Abstract
This study focuses on the implementation of chain writing technique in writing
recount text. The objective of this study was to describe the implementation of
chain writing technique and to reveal the barriers faced by the students in writing
Recount text in SMA Swasta Tunas Harapan. This study was conducted by using
non-experimental design and qualitative approach. The data of this study were
how the teacher implemented the chain writing technique and the student’s
problem in writing recount text. The source of data in this research is taken from
one class of the X grade, one English teacher and 15 students at SMA Swasta
Tunas Harapan. This study was carried out by interviewing the teacher,
distributing questionnaires, and observing the class activities. The research
findings showed that the chain writing technique is implemented well by the
English teacher in teaching writing Recount text. The implementation of chain
writing technique helped the students to think more creative and imaginative in
organizing ideas to create a story of recount. This research found that the students
had many problems during the process of writing recount text such as spelling
problems, grammatical errors and also lack of vocabulary. Students’ lack of
vocabulary and grammar were the biggest problem appeared in this research.
However, the implementation of chain writing technique was success in helping
students to write a recount text especially for students at SMA Swasta Tunas
Harapan.
