Abstract

This study aims to explain the students' perception of the Duolingo application for
listening Asking questions in grade VII at SMP Negeri 3 Sidikalang and to
investigate the barriers that students encounter when using the Duolingo
application to enhance listening Asking questions grade VII at SMP Negeri 3
Sidikalang. Students' perceptions were found using Davis' (1989) theory of
perception. The participants of this study were 36 grade VII-8 students of SMP
Negeri 3 Sidikalang. In conducting this study, a qualitative research design was
used with research instruments in the form of questionnaires and interviews. The
results of this study indicate that, in general, perceptions of all variables:
Perceived usability 80.4%, Thoughts on Usefulness 86.1%, Usage Attitude 86.9%,
Behavioral intention to Use 90.1%, and Actual System Usage 86.6% is very good.
For all the averages of all indicators, a perception of 86.02% is obtained, and it is
categorized that students' perceptions of the Duolingo application are very good.
The study‟s results also show that student‟s obstacles to using the Duolingo
application are advertisements, unclear audio and limited lives.
