Abstract
This research aims to analyze how stand-up comedy represents and reinforces
ideological constructs of singleness, utilising Norman Fairclough's Critical
Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach. The data was utterances displayed for 24
minutes 58 seconds that consists of transcripts from various stand-up comedy that
discuss about singleness. .Using a descriptive-qualitative design, the study
investigates how comedians create and examining societal norms, values, and
biases around singleness through humour techniques such as incongruity,
superiority, and relief. It demonstrates how stand-up comedy may highlight and
criticise society values and beliefs regarding singleness. By analysing comedians'
jokes and patterns, the study provides insights into how singleness is portrayed
and understood in modern culture, revealing the complex and often conflicting
ways in which single life is portrayed and discussed.
