Abstract

The focus of this study was to analyze the types of imagery in the ten selected
poems, to interpret of the imagery, and to describe the representation of covid-19.
The ten selected poems were “Corona is the Virus”, “Reason Friendly in Times of
Covid-19”, “Covid-19: From Carrier to Warrior”, “An Epistle to Corona”, “Covid
Nigeria”, “Corona in, all Others Out”, “Covid 19”, “Covid 19”, “Two Shades of
Pandemic” and “Pandemic needs Will to be Defeated”. This study applied the
theory imagery of Perrine’s theory. Qualitative content analysis was employed as
the method in this study. The data were the ten selected poem lyrics. The source
of data is taken from an anthology of poetry. The researcher found three results
namely, First, there were seven types of imagery found in poem lyrics. They were
visual imagery (27), auditory imagery (5), olfactory imagery (2), gustatory
imagery (2), tactile imagery (3), organic imagery (37), and kinesthetic imagery
(32). Second, the corona pandemic can be interpreted that the impact of the
pandemic situation that occurs looks dangerous, that the voices of sorrow heard
during the pandemic is a form of emotion from death of a covid patient, that
humans cannot be kissed or believe in victory against corona, and that a pandemic
can cause various kinds of feelings in humans such as anxiety and fear. Third,
Covid-19 can be represented as a dangerous virus, as a harmless virus, as negative
impact of globalizing, as unifier for all nations, as a family unifier, as a wanderer,
as a worldwide attacker, as a traumatizer, and as a demon, monster and devil.
