Abstract
This research intended to describe the errors and determine the causes of the error
in the writing of the SMP Negeri 1 Kualuh Hulu eight-grade students. The research
employed a qualitative descriptive approach. 28 students wrote data sources for this
project. The investigator recognized and categorised the data based on Daulay
(1982) after the data were gathered. The examination of data was based on a method
of error analysis. 4 stages were taken; error recognition, error categorization, error
calculation and draws conclusion.The research findings show that the students
made all types of translation errors. And the result of the analysis shows the most
frequent error which students made was misformation with the highest number
(58%). The second is ommision (22%). The third was addition (12%). And the last
was misordering (7%). Then the factor of students error in this study was analyzed
based on intralingual and interlingual transfer where students mostly did the errors
in interlingual transfer. The students did the errors in writing recount text generally
by missing the ignorance of rules such as Rules of spelling, rules of verb (V1 AND
V2), rules of BE and double predicate.
