Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find out whether there is an effect of giving young coconut water on blood glucose levels when carrying out physical activities in PBSI Medan badminton athletes.
This research is using experimental method. The population in this study were PBSI Medan Badminton Athletes, totaling 10 people. The sample in this study were 8 PBSI Medan Badminton Athletes. The sample was divided into 2 treatment groups, namely the experimental (those given young coconut water) and the second control group (those given plain water). To find out the effect of giving young coconut water on the level of hydration status, statistical analysis was used. Data that has been collected from the pre-test and post-test were analyzed using paired t-test statistics with the normality test and homogeneity test, so there are requirements that must be met.
The results of examining glucose levels in the experimental group (which were given young coconut water) before physical activity were 102.00 mg/dL, and increased after physical activity were 117.25 mg/dL. These results indicate that blood glucose levels after running increased by 15.25 mg/dL. While the results of examining glucose levels in the control group (which was given plain water) from before physical activity was 102.00 mg/dL, and increased after physical activity was 114.25 mg/dL. These results indicate that blood glucose levels after running in the control group increased by 12.25 mg/dL. The results of the paired sample test t-test obtained a significance value of 0.010 (p <0.05) which means that there is a significant (significant) difference in the dehydration status of PBSI Medan badminton athletes after physical activity (on blood glucose levels) between pre-test and post-test in the experimental group. These results prove that there is a significant (significant) effect of giving young coconut water on the dehydration status after carrying out physical activities of PBSI Medan badminton athletes (on blood glucose levels).
