Abstract
The objectives of this study were to describe whether: (1) the students’ achievement in reading comprehension taught by using CSR strategy significantly higher than taught by PreP strategy; (2) the students’ with high interest significantly higher than that low interest; (3) there was interaction between teaching strategies and interest. The method of this research used was experimental research with factorial design 2x2. The population of this research was the students in first semester of English Department of Education UMN Medan in academic year 2019/2020. There were 64 students as samples of this research by applying random sampling technique.. The xperimental group 1 was treated by using Collaborative Strategic Reading strategy and the experimental group 2 was treated by using Pre Reading Plan strategy. The instruments of this research were questionnaire sheet and reading test. The data were analyzed by using ANOVA test at the level of significant ∝ = 0.05. Based on the data analysis, the findings provided that: (1) the students’ achievement in reading comprehension taught by using CSR strategy is higher than taught by PreP strategy, with F observed (4.27) > F table (4.00), (2) the students achievement in reading comprehension with high interest was higher than those students with low interest, with F observed (19.89) > F table (4.00), (3) there was interaction between teaching strategies and interest, with F observed (4.47) > F table (4.00). Based on the findings, it can be concluded that three alternative hypothesis (Ha) were accepted.
