Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa, peningkatan sikap positif siswa, interaksi antara penerapan pendekatan pembelajaran dengan kemampuan awal siswa serta untuk mengetahui bagaimana proses penyelesaian masalah siswa. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah siswa SMP Negeri di kota Lhokseumawe yang berakreditasi B, dari hasil pengambilan sampel secara acak diperoleh sampel yaitu siswa SMP Negeri 4 dan siswa SMP Negeri 12 Lhokseumawe, menggunakan metode quasi eksperimen dengan unit sampel sebanyak 73 siswa yang pengambilannya dilakukan berdasarkan acak kelas. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes kemampuan komunikasi matematik dan skala sikap. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari statistik deskriptif N-Gain untuk menyajikan data dan statistik inferensial berupa uji-t dan ANAVA dua jalur. Berdasarkan hasil analisis uji-t untuk hipotesis pertama dan kedua diperoleh hasil penelitian: (1) peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi siswa yang diajarkan dengan pendekatan kontekstual lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan siswa yang diajarkan melalui pembelajaran biasa, dengan taraf signifikan 0,00; (2) peningkatan sikap positif siswa yang diajarkan dengan pendekatan kontekstual lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan siswa yang diajarkan melalui pembelajaran biasa dengan taraf signifikan 0,0005. Berdasarkan hasil analisis ANAVA dua jalur untuk hipotesis ketiga dan keempat diperoleh hasil penelitian: (3) tidak terdapat interaksi antara penerapan pendekatan pembelajaran dan kemampuan awal matematika siswa dalam meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa dengan nilai signifikan 0,864; (4) tidak terdapat interaksi antara penerapan pendekatan pembelajaran dan kemampuan awal matematika siswa dalam meningkatkan sikap positif siswa dengan taraf signifikan 0,724. Proses penyelesaian masalah yang dihasilkan oleh siswa pada pendekatan kontekstual lebih tepat dan strategi penyelesaian yang digunakan lebih beragam dibandingkan dengan siswa pada pembelajaran biasa. Dengan demikian yang menjadi saran dari hasil penelitian ini adalah (1) pendekatan kontekstual sangat potensial untuk diterapkan dalam pembelajaran matematika pada beberapa topik yang sesuai, (2) pendekatan kontekstual akan sangat baik diterapkan dalam meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematik dan sikap positif siswa terhadap matematika khususnya pada siswa yang berkategori kemampuan rendah, (3) baik digunakan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru tentang berbagai jenis pendekatan pembelajaran agar pembelajaran dapat memenuhi tujuan pembelajaran matematika, dan (4) kepada peneliti selanjutnya disarankan agar kiranya dapat melanjutkan penelitian ini ke arah yang lebih kompleks lagi, guna memperoleh penemuan yang lebih terperinci.
