ACEHNESE’S ATTITUDE IN USING VERNACULAR THROUGH HADIH MAJA IN BANDA ACEH

This study explains Acehnese’s Attitude in using vernacular through Hadih Maja in Banda Aceh. The objective of this study are (1) To describe the kinds of language attitude used by teenagers in using vernacular in Banda Aceh (2) To investigate the teenagers behave the way they are when they are using their vernacular. (3)To explain the process of conserve Hadih Maja as representative in using their vernacular.
The method of this study was qualitative research. The subjects were 30 Acehnese speakers’ who live in Banda Aceh taken by purposive random sampling. Questionnaire was used to collect the data of Acehnese speakers of language attitude towards vernacular. Interview was used to collect the data of Acehnese speakers attitude in using their vernacular. Transcription of Acehnese speakers conversation from audio recorder was used to get the data of the attitude by Acehnese speakers. The data were analyzed by using interactive model by Miles and Huberman (1984). This research found that : (1) Teenagers in Aceh use negative attitude in using vernacular in Banda Aceh. (2) teenagers in Banda Aceh show negative attitude in using vernacular because irresponsibility toward vernacular based on philosophy of Hadih Maja. (3) And they use Hadih Maja in certain situation namely, wedding ceremony and traditional art program because their awareness to conserve it as their representative in using their vernacular . It is shown by the way they keep on using their vernacular wherever they go, in different place even city because their vernacular become their identity in a community. It is shown by their attitude in using their vernacular, and the way to use it to another people.
