Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the teacher’s strategies in teaching writing at the
ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Teluk Mengkudu. The design of this
research was a descriptive qualitative study. This research was conducted in SMP
Negeri 1 Teluk Mengkudu. The data of this study were the transcripts of the video
recording and the transcripts of the teacher's interview. The source of the data was
the video recording of the teaching learning process of narrative text. The
Interactive Analytical Model by Huberman et al (2014) model was used for data
analysis. The findings revealed that the teacher used five of the six steps of the
strategy in teaching writing narrative text in the teaching and learning process for
the ninth grade of Negeri 1 Teluk Mengkudu proposed by Badger and White's
(2000), they were: preparation, modeling and reinforcing, planning, joint
construction, and independent construction.Because of the time limitations, there
was no revise step. The data analysis showed that the teacher implemented the
five stages accordingly in the teaching and learning process, it makes the students
to understand the lesson better.
