Abstract
The development of material in Indonesia's education world is increasing,especially in English language learning. English as a foreign language in Indonesia has become an essential part of the subject of learning in the classroom. This research aims to develop skills-specific material based on a scientific approach for class XI in the light vehicle engineering department. This research uses secondary school vocabulary as the research subject because the demand for vocational school students to learn English is deficient, even though after they graduate, this language is needed in the world of work. This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method in Borg and Gall's 2003 Theory.This method is used to find solutions and development in English-speaking materials. The results of this research are seen from the use of English Specific Purpose (Esp) in Vocational
School. Students need to know what material they want. Most students need English language material related to their major, so they are interested in learning English. This research was carried out in class XI with the Light Vehicle Engineering major at SMK N 1 PERCUT SEI TUAN. There were 32 male students in the class.The expert gave the result of material is 72% from English lecturer and 86% from English teacher and in the interval score the ability of student speaking was good until very good so the material valid for used in the English learning for Grade XI of Light Vehicle Engineering.The material has been created and validated by
experts so that the material is suitable for use in the classroom. English specific material based on the scientific approach for grade XI and Light Vehicle Engineering has been developed and will be used in English language learning
activities in class.
