Abstract

This study investigates the literary stylistic features in the musical drama NURBAYA by Indonesia Kaya, utilizing Leech and Short’s (2015) framework on literary stylistics and content analysis (Krippendorff, 2004). The data includes song lyrics, rhymes, dialogues, and interviews with traditional Minangkabau leaders. Findings reveal prominent use of sound patterns, particularly rhyme and figures of speech, especially litotes. Rhyme enhances auditory appeal and cohesion, reflecting cultural traditions and aesthetic beauty, while litotes convey politeness and subtlety, enriching narrative depth and moral messaging. These stylistic choices illustrate the dynamic interplay between traditional elements and contemporary artistic expression, enhancing the aesthetic and emotional impact of the drama. The study underscores the significance of literary devices in creating a compelling and culturally resonant performance.
