Abstract
This study examines the classroom management strategies used by English
teachers in teaching descriptive texts at SMPN 35 Medan, Indonesia. The research
findings reveal that teachers use various methods to manage their class
effectively. This research aims to analyze how teachers manage their classrooms
and explore the reasons behind their chosen strategies. A qualitative approach was
used, using classroom observations and in-depth interviews with two English
teachers. The results showed that the teachers used various ways to manage the
classroom effectively, including physical design in the form of grouping students
with diverse abilities, U-shaped seating to make it easier for teachers to interact
with students. Structured routines, such as taking attendance and wearing full
uniforms to reflect politeness. Building positive relationships with students, such
as responding to each other in order to further bond if the teacher and students
have bonded, it will facilitate learning. Inviting and Motivating, such as teachers
who always provide direction or motivation to students. Discipline, teachers who
always provide actions that make students more responsible such as not coming
late and not sleeping in class during learning. Teachers' management strategies are
influenced by their understanding of students' needs, the importance of a
conducive learning environment, and the effectiveness of positive interactions
between teachers and students. This research contributes to the existing literature
on classroom management by highlighting specific strategies used in teaching
descriptive texts in the Indonesian context.
