Abstract
This study aims to find out English teachers’ strategies applied in teaching writing
descriptive text to the seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Medan. This study
used descriptive qualitative research to analyze teachers’ teaching strategies in the
teaching descriptive text in SMP Negeri 3 Medan. The data of this study were
taken from the transcription of video recordings from English teachers when
teaching in the class. The source of data for this study was English teachers of
seventh grade at SMP Negeri 3 Medan. The data was collected through
observation. This study found there were two English teachers as the data. The
first teacher applied two strategies, they were T-T-W (Think-Talk-Write) strategy
and P.L.E.A.S.E strategy. While the second teacher applied two strategies as well.
They were Guided Writing Strategy and the TTW (Think–Talk–Write) strategy.
