Abstract
This research was conducted to analyze the process of Think, Pair, and Share in
teaching writing, specifically for short functional text at grade 8 of UPT SMP
Negeri 4 Medan. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data of
this research were all the information and knowledge about the steps of Think,
Pair, and Share in teaching writing short messages. The sources of the data in this
research were 32 students from grade 8 at UPT SMP Negeri 4 Medan. The
instruments of this research were observation checklist and video recording. This
research was focused on one English skill, writing,specifically within the genre of
short functional text. The results showed that the implementation process of
Think, Pair, and Share based on Kagan & Kagan (2009) theory: (1) Organizing
Students into Pairs, (2) Posing the Topic or Question, (3) Allowing Thinking
Time (4) Facilitating Discussion, and (5) Sharing with the Class. The advantages
by implementing think, pair, and share with correct theory proposed by Lyman
(2005):
