Abstract
This study was aimed to know the type of code mixing used by English teacher in
teaching speaking and the reason why the teacher use code mixing in teaching
speaking at Smp Parulian 2 Medan. The research was conducted by using
descriptive qualitative research. The subject of this research was an English
teacher in Smp Parulian 2 Medan. The data were collected by observation and
interview. The types of code mixing used by English teacher :(1) intra-sentensial,
code mixing (2) intra-lexical code mixing (3) involving change pronunciation.
Based on the observations, the reason of use code mixing by English teacher the
initial rationale for employing the technique of code-mixing by the instructors was
the belief that the pupils were unable to comprehend the subject matter if the
educator applied the entire English language to explicate it, and over 60% of the
pupils were unable to comprehend the English at that point.
