FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE IN AVERIANA BARUS’ SONGS

This study focuses on Figurative Language used in Averiana Barus’ song. Averiana
Barus is one of famous Karonese singers who mostly sing about a love song. The
aim of the study was to find out types of Figurative Language used by Averiana
Barus towards her songs. Another goal of this study was to analyze and explain how
Figurative Language used in Averiana Barus’ song interpreted throughout her song.
The study was conducted by using qualitative design, where it started from
describing, classifying, tabulating, and then analyzing the data. The data gotten
from the song lyrics of seven songs of Averiana Barus. Using theory of Reaske it
was found that there were 7 types of Figurative Language used in Averiana Barus’
song, they were Personification, Hyperbole, Simile, Repetition, Allusion,
Symbolism and Metaphor. The most dominant types of Figurative Language
found in Averiana Barus’ song was Personification. It was also found that
Figurative Languages usedin Averiana Barus’ song was interpreted as a media to
express the singer’s feeling and emotion poetically and beautifully.
