Abstract

The objective of the study was to develop students’ worksheets based on project�based learning in teaching writing descriptive text. This research was conducted at
SMP Negeri 4 Medan using the research and development (R&D) model by Borg and Gall (2003). The subject of this study was 32 seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Medan. This study collected the data through observation by looking at
the existing worksheet, interviewing the English teacher, and distributing questionnaires to 32 students. Based on the data obtained, the students needed an appropriate writing task for a descriptive text topic because their writing skills were low, and they were more likely to be passive in the classroom. The developed student’s worksheet based on project-based learning can help the students practice
their writing skills and participate actively during the teaching and learning process. The two experts have validated the developed students’ worksheets. The average
score of the developed student’s worksheet was 90.5%, which indicated that it is very good and can be used in teaching writing descriptive text.
