Abstract
The aim of this research is to describe how The use of songs in teaching English listening to tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Kabanjahe. The research was conducted using descriptive qualitative, and class X students of SMA Negeri 2 Kabanjahe were the subjects of this research. The data in this research are English songs and teacher interviews. The data collection techniques used were observation, Missing Lyrics test and teacher interviews. As a result of the research, researchers found that the use of songs was very useful in teaching English, as said by Horn (2007). In the percentage of missing lyric test results, the
percentage of the first song test was 88% and the second song was 82%, this shows that the use of songs can improve students' listening abilities. Apart from that, songs can also attract students' attention in learning, create a pleasant learning atmosphere, increase students' self- confidence in doing something, in this case singing is part of the learning process. Based on the results of interviews
with teachers, researchers found that the use of songs really helped teachers in conveying the material being taught. Songs make students more motivated and more enthusiastic about participating in learning. By using songs, students feel more relaxed, relaxed and comfortable participating in learning. The use of songs in the learning process can indirectly train students' pronunciation and in line with that, the use of songs can help students add new vocabulary.
