Abstract

This study aimed to explain the implementation of scientific approach in teaching reading comprehension and to analyze the difficulties the teacher faces in teaching reading comprehension using scientific approach at the grade ninth students of SMP Kemala Bhayangkari 1 Medan. The data was collected by used several sources to obtain information, such as observation, interview and documentation of scientific approach in teaching reading comprehension This study is used descriptive qualitative design. The findings of the study revealed that in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text during in class there are 5 stages which are follows: 1) Observing, 2) Questioning, 3) experimenting 4) Associating, and 5) communicating The learning activities were pre-activity, main activity and closing activity .The
teacher has conducted five steps of scientific approach even though sometimes she or the teacher had applied the steps doesn’t sequentially . But general the teacher
had applied this approach well enough in class learning. And students follow the lessons according to the instructions given by the teacher. Difficulties faced by the teacher in applying scientific approach in teaching reading comprehension for the Ninth grade students. There is a lack of independent creativity and innovation so that teachers give more attention to scientific approaches so that a lot of used time.
