Abstract

This research aims to identify the types of semiotic signs: icon, index and symbol,
and the realization of them. The study was conducted by using a descriptive
qualitative method. The data were taken from signs found in the Pajabu
Parsahapan. The sources of data were taken from the video of Pajabu parsahapan
on YouTube channel. Pajabu parsahapan ceremony and the informant. The data
were analyzed by using Peirces theory of semiotic signs. There were 14 semiotic
signs, namely: 2 icons 14,29%, (rice) boras and (chicken meat) tombuan, 2
indexes 14,29%, namely:(Dowry) sinamot and (Gotong cloth) Kain gotong. And
10 symbols 71,42% namely:(betel) demban sagunringan, (tobacco) timbahou
sapangpang, (yarn) sambilu, (betle nut twelve) pining hibul sapuludua, (cotton)
hapas putih, (turmeric)huning/ omas,(betel nut) pining batisan, (betel dye) gambir,
(banana leaf) bulung tinapak, and (pandan mat) bahul bahul. Semiotic signs here
realized in the form of the value of prayer to and advice for the bride. The prayer
contains requests for health, safety, success, happiness, and glory for the bride and
groom to live a new life.
