Abstract
This study refers to Cunningsworth's reading selection criteria in the tenth-grade
English textbook. The goal of this study is to ascertain whether the reading
materials in the "Bahasa Inggris " textbook for high school students in the tenth
grade satisfy four Cunningsworth evaluation criteria, including aims and
approaches, language content, reading skills, and topics. This study is descriptivequalitative
in design. The information was qualitatively examined. Each criterion
was used independently to calculate the results of this study. The results show that
the reading material from the student textbook "Bahasa Inggris" fulfills the
standards for an effective textbook as stated by Alan Cunningsworth's checklist,
with the fulfillment of 75% for aim and approach, 80% for language content, 80%
for reading skills, and 86% for topics. This textbook does a good job of assisting
students in understanding the material offered in terms of reading ability.
