Abstract
This study aims to analyze the types of oral feedback in teaching descriptive text
and the reason teacher uses those types. This study uses a qualitative descriptive
method. The data were collected for two meetings/40 minutes. There was an
English teacher at grade VII in SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Medan. The data was
analyzed by using Miles and Huberman pattern. This study found some types of
oral feedback there are Explicit Correction, Recasts, Clarification Requests,
Metalinguistic Feedback, Elicitation, and Repetition. It was found that Explicit
Correction was dominant. It appeared six times (37.5%). The lowest types were
Elicitation showed up once (6.2%) and Repetition showed up once (6.2%). The
total of utterances of oral feedback produced by the teacher was 16. The
difference in frequency between two meetings was 2 with the last meeting is
lower. It shows that oral feedback make improvement to the students. The reason
teacher used those types were the responsibility of the teacher, to know the level
of learning, as tool of improvement, and able to do the task.
