Abstract

This study attempted to investigate the level of teachers' perspectives in managing classes in large classes, and to found the problems faced and found out how teacher do to solve the problems. A descriptive qualitative design was used in this study. The data were collected by doing deep interview with two English teachers of SMP Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan. The result of this study found that the teachers
managing classroom in large class. And based on the theory of Allen (2001), the teachers’ have six levels of perspectives managing classroom in large class, namely: purpose, vision, goals, area of responsibility, project and action. Furthermore, the teachers faced some problems while in managing a large class, namely: controlling students in large classes, teachers are difficult to explain the material. Meanwhile, for how teacher do to solve the problems in managing a large class. Both of the teachers have several ways, they are, grouping student, teachers’ roles, worksheet and seating arrangement. In addition, Class size is very influential on the teacher in managing the class.
