Abstract

The background to this creation is that Mandailing ornaments generally have simple shapes. There is still a lack of cultural understanding among the general public in terms of knowledge and information about Mandailing ornaments and
there is a lack of public interest in Mandailing ornaments. This creation aims to find out the ornaments applied in creating written batik, the process of creating Mandailing written batik works and the results of creating Mandailing written batik and knowing the results of creating Mandailing written batik works. This creation uses a method consisting of three stages of creating works of art, namely: exploration, design and realization. The result of this creation is two-dimensional Mandailing batik work in various sizes. The works produced were 10 batik works entitled Mandailing nauli, Mandailing najeges, naposo nauli nulung, hampu and bulang, dalian na tolu, Tapsel najeges, gimbang, kopi Sipirok, salak Sidempuan, and Tapsel najeges. Written batik works use the dab technique with remasol dye. Ornamental motifs are used as the main motif in written batik works and then combined with additional motifs from Mandailing cultural traditions, natural resources, typical Sidempuan rickshaws and isen motifs
