Abstract
Textbooks are written products that important in teaching and learning activities as one of the learning devices because they provide several materials for the students. As a teacher, you must be selective in choosing textbooks, so that the learning objectives for can be achieved by the students. For this reason, analyzing the textbook is needed to find out whether the textbook is a good textbook or not.
The aims of this study to find out the evaluation checklists that are realized in the English textbook and describe how the evaluation checklists are realized in the English textbook entitled English Skills for the Future for Eleventh Grade Senior High School. The textbook was written by Herman Benyamin which is published by Grafindo (2017). This study applied descriptive qualitative method, which referred to content analysis. The data of this study were collected from the whole contents of the English textbook. The researcher used the eight evaluation checklists as the instrument of this research that taken from Alan Cunningsworth’s theory.
The result of this study showed that only seven evaluation checklists that realized in the English textbook. They are aims and approaches, design and organization, language contents, skills, topics, methodology and practical consideration. Even though there was no teacher’s book, but the English textbook could be categorized as a good English textbook because the aims of the textbook appropriate with the 2013 Curriculum, there are some tasks and activities that may improve students’ skills, their critical thinking, and their understanding about English subject. So the textbook can be used in teaching and learning activities.
