Abstract
Learning style is a student's proclivity to adopt a few strategies in their learning
as a type of choice to develop a learning strategy that is acceptable for classroom
instruction or at school as well as from subjects. In this case, the researcher
found two problems in the learning style, the first was what type of learning in
the class and the second was how the teacher's strategy was to accommodate this
learning style. The goals of this research were to find out the types of student
learning styles within the classroom and to determine the teacher's strategy in
accommodating of students with learning styles in an English class at SMP
Negeri 1 Ujung Padang. Researcher used qualitative research methods with data
collection instruments by observation, questionnaire, and documentation. Using
Fleming's Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic (VAK) (1987), these results show that
among the three possibilities of having different learning styles it is seen that
different learning styles are visual (40%), auditory (40%), and kinesthetic (
20%). The second finding is about the strategies used by teachers, as said by
Levy (2008) by combining three learning styles, namely visual, auditory and
kinesthetic learning styles into one structured teaching strategy.
