Abstract
The aims of this study were to describe the teachers’ Strategies in Teaching Reading
Comprehension at VII Grade Students of MTS Ex PGA Proyek UNIVA Medan. A
descriptive qualitative design was used in this study. The subjects of the study were
two English teachers who teach at seventh grade at MTS PGA EX Proyek UNIVA
Medan. The data were obtained by observation and interview. The data were
analysed by using four concurrent flows by Miles and Huberman. The finding of
this research was the two teachers used different strategies in teaching reading. The
strategies are scaffolding and SQ3R. They had different reasons in applied the
strategy. The first teacher used with the aim that students can be more active in
learning and also more enthusiastic in participating in lessons. The second teacher
used SQ3R strategy to helps students in constructing meaning while they are
reading a text and aims to make students understand the entire content of the text
