Abstract
This thesis deals with language acquisition by a five- year- old child suffering from delay. This study investigates the language acquisition of the child.\, the type of word class acquired by a five- year-old child, the phonological production of the language acquired by a five- year- old child suffering from language delay and how he expresses the languages in his daily life. This study applied a case study design with cross- sectional survey type. This study was located at Jl. Ujung Serdang, Komp. Cendara Asri No. 21 Tanjung Morawa Medan and the subject of this study was a five year old child. In collecting the data, this study applied documentation with audiovisual recorder as the instrument of collecting the data. The technique of data analysis used in this study was descriptive technique, and the data were described through the process of transcribing the data and reducing the data by process of selecting, focusing, simplifying and transforming the trancripts of the data, after that displaying the data and at last drawing the conclusion. The findings indicate that the subject of this study had mastered vocabularies, where the word classes of the vocabularies acquired are noun, adjective, verb, and adverb. Then from the phonological production of the subject of the study found seven phonological processes they are stopping process, fronting process, voicing process, clustering reduction process, deleting of final consonant process, deleting of unstresses process and reduplicating process. The last in expressing the language in his daily life, teh child sometimes used the body language.
