Abstract
The aim of this study was to discover the racism of African-American woman in
1960s using intersectional approach throughout the image of the help novel by
Kathryn Stockett. The methodology of this research is qualitative reseach. The
researcher used The Help novel by Kathryn Stockett, journals and article related to
intersectional feminism as the instrument for collecting the data. The data were
analyzed by using textual analysis to interpret the dialogue of the novel to discover
the image of the main character and reveal the racism that the main characters went
through. The researcher using characterization telling by Bell, J.S to interpreted the
dialogue of the novel and using intracategorical intersectional by McCall for
revealed the racism. The researcher found six dominant images which mainly
positive image. By finding the images, the researcher found that the main cause of
racism the main character went through is the image of woman as general in 1960s
still have a low profile which makes society believe that woman can never do or be
what men does.
