Abstract
The research dealt with politeness strategy used by raja parhata in wedding ceremony of batak toba. The aims of this study were: (1) to find the dominant type of politeness strategy used by raja parhata in wedding ceremony of batak toba (2) to explain how polite utterances realize (3) to find the reason why it become the dominant type of politeness strategy used by raja parhata in wedding ceremony of batak toba. This qualtitative descriptive research deals with the politeness strategy used by raja parhata in wedding ceremony of batak toba found in Kelurahan Sidorejo, Medan. The objective of the study were to find the types of politeness strategy of batak toba in the conversation in wedding ceremony of batak toba . The data were collected by recording the conversation of Speaker and Hearer (Raja Parhata) and then were transcribed. The data were analyzed by qualitative research based on Nazir. The result of the research shown that two types of politeness strategy used by raja parhata in wedding ceremony of batak toba. The percentage in using positive politeness strategy was 80,00%, and negative politeness was 20,00% .
