Abstract
This study aims to determine the effectiveness in improving student learning outcomes and student character using innovative learning materials based on the SETS (Science, Environment, Technology and Society) approach integrated Islamic values in the reaction rate material that has been developed. The subjects of this study were students of class XI MAN 2 Model Medan. The research sample was taken by random sampling of two classes, namely the control class and the experimental class. The research method used is the ADDIE development model which consists of five stages, namely Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate but this research is limited to the Implement stage. This study uses a test instrument in the form of multiple choice questions totaling 20 valid and reliable questions with a reliability of 0,848. Based on the results of the prerequisite test data, it is known that the pretest, posttest and gain results in the control group and the experimental class are normally distributed and homogeneous. Hypothesis test used in this study is the right-side t test with the acquisition of tcount > ttable is 5,423 > 2,0021 then Ha is accepted and the increase in learning outcomes (gain) from the experiment class is 50,43% while the increase of student character is 43,58%. The correlation of learning outcome and student character is 21,43%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the innovation of learning materials based on the integrated SETS (Science, Environment, Technology and Society) approach of Islamic values that has been developed is effectively used to improve student character and learning outcomes.
