Abstract
This research deals with slow secondary learners difficulties in learning speaking at Homeschooling Global Lentera Kasih Batam. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research. The objectives of this study were (1) to investigate the factors causing slow secondary learners difficulties in learning speaking English (2) to describe how to overcome difficulties in learning speaking; and (3) to recommend strategy in learning speaking English. The data of this study was obtained from documentation and interview. The results showed that (1) there were two factors caused the difficulties of slow learners in learning speaking, they are emotional and personal factors. (2) There were six ways to overcome slow secondary learners difficulties in learning speaking, they were: a) not starting lessons when the child is not ready to learn, b) apperception or linking with concepts, c) assure that the child will succeed in learning, d) creating a good relationship between the teacher and parents, e) carrying out the learning process with the principles of PAIKEM, f) supervision of the things that are getting smaller and the most influence way was always preceded by apperception or linking with concepts that have been implemented. (3) Picture describing, role play and brainstorming were appropriate recommend strategies for teaching slow learner in learning speaking.
