Abstract
This study aimed: (1) to find out the types of processes in Descriptive, Recount, and Narrative texts in English textbook for the tenth grade students and (2) to describe the differences among the types of text in terms of transitivity process. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. The data were clauses taken from long functional texts or genres found in English textbook for the tenth grade students entitled Bahasa Inggris. There were ten texts found in the English textbook which consisted of three descriptive, four recount, and three narrative texts. Each text was divided into clauses to be analyzed and classified based on the types of processes in transitivity system. The results showed that six processes were found. They were material process (49%), mental process (24%), relational process (11%), verbal process (11%), behavioral process (3%), and lastly, existential process (2%). Relational process dominated the descriptive and material process dominated both recount and narrative texts. This implies that the descriptive texts are dominated by clauses that construe the relationship of two beings or entities, and the recount and narrative texts mostly talk about actions that are physically done.
