POLITENESS STRATEGIES USED IN SITI’S MOVIE

The thesis dealt with the politeness strategies used in Siti’s Movie. The objectives of this study were to find out types of politeness strategies, the reason of using politeness strategies and the differences of politeness strategies used by main character in every relations used in the of Siti’s movie. The study was conducting by using desccriptive qualitative method. The data of the study were every utterance that spoken by characters, mainly 3 main characters; Siti, Darmi and Bagas. The data analysis were taken by listing and tabulating the data. The data were analyzed based on the theory proposed by Yule that adopted from Brown and Levinson.The findings indicated that there were 4 types of translation strategies used in the movie, they were Bald on Record (21 utterances), Positive Politeness (29 utterances), Negative Politeness (12 utterances), and Off Record ( utterances). The dominant politeness strategies in Siti’s movie is Positive Politeness.
