Abstract
The objectives of this descriptive qualitative study were to investigate: (1) the types of language styles used by teacher to students in classroom interaction, (2) To realized language styles used by the teachers to students in classroom interaction and (3) the reason for the use of language style in classroom interaction. The data were obtained from sentences that uttered by the teachers and were transcribed. Source of this research were three teachers who graduated from education department and one class of students that were selected by using random sampling technique that used as a sample. The data were identified, analyzed and categorized based on Miles, Huberman, and Saldana’s analysis theory (2014). It was analyzed through three procedures, namely (1) data condensation, (2) data display, and (3) conclusion drawing and verification. The findings of the study showed that: 1)not all types of language styles are used by teachers in MAN Kisaran in classroom interaction. There are four types of language styles are occured they are casual style, consultative style, formal style and intimate style. There is no frozen style was found in teachers’ utterances while classroom interaction process. the teachers in MAN Kisaran used 53.2% casual style while teaching and it shows that casual language style dominantly used in classroom interaction by the teachers. 2) From data in this study, it can be found that all of language style in classroom interaction are categorized subjectivity 3) The teachers used a certain language style according to some factors, they are the participants, the setting, the function and the topic of the conversation in classroom interaction.
