Abstract
This research was aimed to develop a new teaching media by using existed application named ClassDojo. This application has been used in some schools of United States as teaching media. This research was conducted by using Research and Development (R & D). R & D is and industry – based development model in
which the findings of the research are used to design new products and procedures, which then are systematically field – tested, evaluated and refined until they meet specified criteria of effectiveness, quality or similar standards (Gall, Gall and Borg, 2003: 569). The data were obtained by giving questionnaire of needs analysis to the students of class X MIA 7 at SMA Negeri 3 Medan. The media used in this research
has been validated by two expert validators. And the result of the validating sheet is above 89 and 90 for each validator, which means the media has been approved and applicable to be used for teaching learning process in the classroom. The result
of this study showed that the implementation of ClassDojo as the teaching media in teaching English speaking is effective to improve students’ ability in speaking. The used of ClassDojo as teaching speaking media gives positive effects on improving students’ performances and achievement in speaking skill. ClassDojo facilitates the students to activate their prior knowledge before they practice their speaking. It helps them generate ideas more effectively and release their anxiety
that cause the speakers’ tongue went numb. By using this media, the students can feel ease in improving their speaking skill.
