Nikmah, Ria Dhatun. Registration Number: The Effect of Teaching Techniques and
Interest on Students’ Vocabulary Mastery. A Thesis. English Applied Linguistic Study
Program, State University of Medan
The objectives of this research were: (1) The vocabulary mastery of the students
taught by using Anagram Technique and Make a Match Technique, (2) The
vocabulary mastery of the students who have high interest and low Interest, and
(3)The interaction between teaching techniques and interest on the students’
vocabulary mastery. An experimental research with factorial design 2x2 was used in
this research. the population of this research was the students of eleventh grade year an
academic year 2018/2019 of SMA MUHAMMADIYAH 2 Medan. The sample of this
research consist of two classes; class MIA 2 was used as the experimental group
treated by using Anagram Technique and class IIS 1 as the control group was treated
by using Make a Match Technique. The sampling technique used is lottery technique.
The instruments for this research were vocabulary test and questionnaire sheet. The
data were analyzed by applying Two-Way Anova. Based on the analysis, that were
found that (1) students vocabulary mastery that was taught by Using Anagram
Technique id higher than by using Make a Match Technique. With Fobserved is higher
than Ftable the level significant α = 0.05 (FA = 37.17 > Ftable = 3.97), (2) studetnts’
Vocabulary Mastery with high interest is higher than low interest, With Fobserved is
higher than Ftable the level significant α = 0.05 (FB = 5.72 > Ftable = 3.97), (3) there is
significant interaction between teaching techniques and interest on students‘
vocabulary mastery With Fobserved is higher than Ftable the level significant α = 0.05
(FAB = 4.20 > Ftable = 3.97). after the tuckey test was applied, it showed that the
students who have high interest got higher result if they were taught by using
Anagram Technique and the students who have low interest got higher result if they
taught by using Make a Match Technique.
