DEIXIS IN SIMALUNGUN MANGHIOUI WEDDING CEREMONY

This study was found on the topic about deixis in Simalungun Manghioui Wedding Ceremony. The objectives of this study are to identify the types of deixis, to elaborate the use of deixis, and to investigate the reasons of using deixis in Simalungun Manghioui wedding ceremony. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. The data of this study were deictic words which gained from the video of Simalungun Manghioui wedding ceremony uploaded in Youtube. The findings of this study showed that five types of deixis were found in participants’ utterances in Simalungun Manghioui wedding ceremony, they are: person deixis (46.27%), spatial deixis (13.48%), temporal deixis (5.23%), discourse deixis (13%), and social deixis (22.02%). From the analysis person deixis is the most dominant type in Simalungun Manghioui wedding ceremony. There are two kinds of deixis realizations found in Simalungun Manghioui wedding ceremony, they are gestural and symbolic deixis. The reason why deixis used in Simalungun Manghioui wedding ceremony is influenced by the context of situation in which language is used that affect both how participants used language and how it is received.
