DEVELOPING TEACHING MEDIA TO TEACH SPEAKING SKILL FOR THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS

The objective of this study was to design a new teaching media by using wayang to teach speaking skill on analytical exposition text based on students’ need. This
study was conducted by applying Research and Development (R&D) design. The data were gathered from research and development steps. The data from research step were collected from the result of the interview section with the English teacher and questionnaires from the students’ needs. The data from development step were collected from the result of field testing questionnaires by the students and the checklist from the experts validation, they are English teacher of SMA Bina Bersaudara Medan and the lecturer of State University of Medan. The final
product of this study was a set of developed teaching media, it consisted hardware and software units. Hardware units were consisted of 8 wayang characters and three different situation of ilustration in form of pop-up, all of the aspects were packaged on a lapbook. The software units were consisted of three topics of dialogue script based on analytical exposition text, an example video and the instruction were packaged on a book
