TEXTUAL FUNCTION IN AMIR HAMZAH’S COLLECTED POEMS “ NYANYI SUNYI

This study deals with Textual Function in Amir Hamzah’s Collected Poems “Nyanyi Sunyi. It was aimed to investigate the structures of Theme and Rheme in Amir Hamzah’s poems “Nyanyi Sunyi”, to describe the process of the structures of Theme and Rheme realized in Amir Hamzah’s poems “ Nyanyi Sunyi”, and to elaborate the reason for the structure dominantly used in Amir Hamzah’s poems “ Nyanyi Sunyi”. This study was conducted by using qualitative research. The data were obtained from Amir Hamzah’s collected poems “Nyanyi Sunyi” and were analyzed by using structure of Theme and Rheme.The result showed that The structure of Theme and Rheme found in Amir Hamzah’s collected poems “Nyanyi Sunyi” are UnMarked Topical Theme (45.80%), this structure is highest so it means that most of Theme is subject. The second are Marked Topical Theme(41.07%), it is included prepositional phrase, process(verb),adverbial, and another component is proposed by the researcher herself, namely adjective found as Theme. Then, Textual Theme (9.31%) It means that continuative, conjunction or conjunctive adjunct as Theme. The lowest are Interpersonal Theme(3.82%), it means that vocative, modal adjunct are in first position. The process of structure of Theme and Rheme in Amir Hamzahs’collected poems “Nyanyi Sunyi” are realized by using system of Theme, such as Topical Theme, Textual Theme+ Topical Theme, Interpersonal Theme+ Topical Theme, Textual Theme+Interpersonal Theme+ Topical Theme.The dominant structure of Theme and Rheme in Amir Hamzahs’collected poems “Nyanyi Sunyi” is Unmarked Topical Theme/ Ideational Theme.It because the poet of Nyanyi Sunyi would like to emphasize about subjects to the reader. The poems are conveyed by deep expression because the poet want to tell the reader about his feeling to the God. Beside that the poet also would like to convey his own experience in his life which he think his life is silent, sad, and dissapointed
