Abstract
The purpose of this study is: To improve students' mathematical problem solving ability and
to know how far the improvement of mathematical problem solving ability to
use learning approaches Realistic Mathematics Education on the subject of Statistics. This
type of research is a CAR (Classroom Action Research). The subjects of this study are
students of class XI SMA Dharma Pancasila Medan as many as 30 person. The object of this
research is to improve the ability of mathematical problem solving with
Realistic Mathematics Education on subject Statistics Academic Year 2017/201 8. Based on
the analysis of data obtained after implementation of the action on the 1st cycle the average
score of students was 71.2% with the number of students who reached the category of
minimum value (65) as many as 23 people (76%). On the 2nd cycle, obtained the average
score of students was 81% with amount of students who reached the category of minimum
value (65) increased became 28 people (93%). In the problem solving test I (1st cycle ) the
average score of students increased as 32.77% from the diagnostic tests and on the problem
solving skills test II (2nd cycle) the average score of students increased as 10% from the
problem solving skills test I. Similarly, the level of mastery learning classically increased
from the cycle I 76% became 93% in cycle II. Based on observations conducted by the
observer, obtained teacher learning management implemented in the 1st cycle can be said to
include the category good enough (Meeting I score 2.1, Meeting II score of 3.0). In the 2nd
cycle, the level of the researchers' ability to manage learning categorized was very good
(meeting I score of 3.1, meeting II score of 3, 2). Based on the result of the improvement
from 1st cycle to 2nd cycle it can be concluded that the learning approach of Realistic
Mathematics Education can improve mathematical problem solving ability on the subject of
statistics.
