Abstract
This study attempts to improve students vocabulary achievement by applyingpictures. The study deals with the classroom action research done in fivemeetings. The subject of this study was the fourth year students of SD DARMAMedan, that was IV-A class. The number of the students was 33 persons. The dataof this study were obtained qualitatively from diary notes and observation sheetswhich shows that the students were more active and enthusiastic during theteaching and learning process, and quantitatively from vocabulary test, whichshows that the mean score of the test III in the second cycle (72.42) is higher thanthe mean score of the test II in the first cycle (61.67) and test I (52.57). Theresearch findings indicate that the students vocabulary achievement wassignificantly improved by applying pictures, where the mean of students scoreskept improving in every meeting.
