Abstract
This study aims at investigaing the effect of applying clustering technique on students’ achievement in writing analytical exposition text. It was conducted by using experimental research design. The Population of this research was the eleventh (XI) grade students of SMAN 2 Pematangsiantar. The number of the samples taken was two classes.The first class (XI PMIA 1) which consists of 30 students as the experimental group, while the second class (XI PMIA 2) which consists of 30 students as the control group. The experimental group was taught by using clustering technique. The instrument for collecting the data was writing test. To obtain the reliability of the test, the writer used the Pearsons’ Product Moment Formula, The resut of the study showed that the reliability of the test was 0,90. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula, the analysis showed that the score of students in the experimental group was higher than the score of students in the control group at the level of significance 0, 05 with the degree of freedom (df) 58; the t-observed is 4, 61 while the t-table is 2, 00. Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the hypothesis alternative (Ha) is accepted.
