Abstract

This study attempts to improve students achievement in writing recount text through Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC). This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIII-F SMP N 1 Panei which consisted of 30 students. The research was conducted in two cycles and every cycle consisted of three meetings. The instruments of collecting data were quantitative data (writing test score) and qualitative data (diary notes, observation sheet, and interview sheet). Students achievement in writing recount text is improved which is shown from the improvement of the students score. The mean of the first test was 44.60. The mean of the students score in second test was 63.10. And the mean of the students score in third test was 78.16. After doing the second cycle, it is known that there were 28 students who got the score ≥ 70 points and the percentage was 93.33%. The result of the research showed that Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) significantly improved students achievement in writing recount text.
