Abstract

This study attempts to improve students achievement in writing analytical exposition through group investigation of XI year of SMA NEGERI 2 Lubuk Pakam. It was conducted by doing action research. The subject of the study was XI year of SMA NEGERI 2 Lubuk Pakam, it consisted 36 students. It was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle was conducted for four meetings. Instruments for collecting data were quantitative data (writing test) and qualitative data (diary notes, observation sheet, and interview). The result of the writing test showed students score kept improving in every test. The mean of the students score in the post test of cycle II was the highest of all tests, so it can be said that the students writing achievement increased from 45.60, 65.20, 76.20. Based on diary notes, observation sheets and interview report, it was found that the teaching –learning process ran well. The result of the study shows that group investigation could improve students’ writing achievement
