Developing Audio-Visual Media Using Plotagon for Teaching Listening of Descriptive Text at Seventh Grade Students of SMP Negeri 27 Medan

This study aimed to develop and validate Plotagon-based audio-visual media for
teaching listening comprehension of descriptive texts to seventh-grade students.
Using an R&D method adapted from Borg and Gall (2003), which has six stages:
gathering data and information, analyzing the data, designing media, validating by
experts, revision, and final product. The study involved 28 students at SMP Negeri
27 Medan. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and validation
sheets. The results showed that students had difficulties in listening due to limited
vocabulary, poor identification of key information, and a lack of contextual
understanding, while existing media were unengaging. The developed media
integrates animation, dialogue, and visual context. Two audio- visual media were
developed and validated by an English lecturer and a teacher. The validation result
indicated a high level of feasibility, with an average score 90%. Therefore, the
media were considered effective in enhancing students’ engagement and listening
comprehension.
