Abstract
The research addressed conceptual metaphor of emotion expressions used by Mandailingnese speakers: conceptual metaphor. The goals of the research included: (1) t investigate the categories of metaphors of the Mandailingnese Speakers express based on the conceptual metaphor, (2) to elucidate how the emotion of the Mandailingnese Speakers expressed based on conceptual metaphor, (3) to analyze the reason why the emotion of the Mandailingnese Speakers expressed based on conceptual metaphors as the way they are. The study was executed by using descriptive qualitative design. The data of this research were expression which is including words, phrases, and clauses. The research that was applied was observation, interviews and data documents to collect the data.The data-related technique anlysis was interactive model. The research outcomes indicated that: (1) There were three types of Mandailingnese Speakers express the emotions based on conceptual metaphors, they are: structural, onrientational and ontological metaphors. Structural Metaphors were the most frequently used, appearing in 65 cases or 55.08% of all identified metaphorical expressions. Ontological Metaphors followed with 42 instances, making up 35.6%, while Orientational Metaphors were the least common, occurring in 11 instances or 9.32% of the data (2).There were 20 ways of Mandailingnese Speakers expressed the emotions based on conceptual metaphors. (3) There were five reasons behind the Mandailingnese Speakers expressed emotion based on conceptual metaphors. The novelty of this research is conceptual metaphor can ehance emotional intelligence and communication for Mndailingnese Speakers and it’s not been researched yet
