Abstract
This study examines the translation techniques used in the Indonesian subtitles of the Netflix series Sex Education, focusing on sexual terminology. Employing a descriptive-explanatory approach as defined by Saldanha and O'Brien, the
research explores patterns in translator decisions and the possible ideological reasons behind them. The study addresses two key questions: what translation techniques are used for sexual terminology in the series, and how are these
techniques realized? ten out of eighteen translation techniques applied of sexual terminologies, with
literal translation being the most frequent method. Other techniques include linguistic amplification, description, and borrowing. The findings highlight the challenges of translating sensitive content while aiming to maintain accuracy and comprehensibility. By analyzing these strategies, the study provides insights into how sexual terminology is adapted across languages while preserving meaning and intent, contributing to a deeper understanding of translation practices in this context.
