Abstract

The purpose of this study was: (1) to determine the relationship of the ability to use calipers with learning outcomes using conventional lathes. (2) to find out the relationship of reading mechanical engineering drawings with the results of learning using conventional lathes. (3) to find out the relationship between the ability to use calipers and to read mechanical engineering drawings with the results of learning using conventional lathes. The population of this study were all students of class XI engineering engineering skills program of SMK Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan, amounting to 62 people and the number of samples was determined by the Harry King Nomogram which determines the sample taken 81% of the population = 60 then taken randomly. The study design used a descriptive correlational approach, the data were analyzed using the product moment correlation formula, and multiple linear regression. The results of the study revealed that (1) there was a positive relationship between the ability to use the calipers with learning outcomes using a conventional lathe (r = 0.521269) with an alpha significance level of 5%. (2) there is a positive relationship between reading mechanical engineering drawings and learning outcomes using a conventional lathe with a correlation coefficient (r = 0.440) with an alpha significance level of 5%. (3) there is a positive relationship between the ability to use the sorong term and read mechanical engineering drawings together on the learning outcomes using a conventional lathe with the meaning of multiple correlation (Fcount), which is 13.3696. The results of this study indicate that the ability to use calipers and read images of mechanical engineering has a significant relationship to the learning outcomes using conventional lathes. This means that the learning outcomes of using a conventional lathe are influenced by the ability to use calipers and read mechanical engineering drawings. Thus schools need to improve using conventional lathes for the ability to use calipers and read mechanical engineering drawings.
